Designed by Renato  “Sonny” Levi, with interior by architect Gae Aulenti, Vismara Marine performed an important refit of Hidalgo.

Viareggio, December 21016 – Hidalgo, G.50 (the boat commissioned by the lawyer Giovanni Agnelli, the name G.50 stands for Giovanni 50 knots) and Barbarina, three boats designed by the Maestro Renato “Sonny” Levi based on the same Delta hull, that made him famous, but also profoundly different from each other. Hidalgo was built in 1968 by the shipyard Delta Anzio’s which had left intact its charm until today. A fast commuter intended for fast coastal cruising but also able to reach high speeds. With a small interior, the boat was still be able to accommodate the owner in a night anchoring thanks to doors opening system with a top closure awning.

Propulsion: Hidalgo was equipped with a couple of beautiful LDU (Levi Drive Unit) surface propellers, originally coupled with two MTU engines, today two new Cummins QSB 550 Hp able to push Hidalgo to more than 40 knots. Two Bruntons joints and two new flaps fitted with pistons capable of correct were installed on the boat to correct trim during planning, even at low speeds. Two Volvo “interceptors” were also installed to ensure proper alignment and stability even at high speeds.

Refitting: the refitting of Hidalgo kept busy Vismara Marine, togheter with Cantiere Navale Checchi, refit team from the summer of 2016. The need to consolidate all wooden structures, upgrade systems and equipment, give a new deck layout to enhance Hidalgo style and performances, were entirely performed by the Vismara Marine refit team. All Hidalgo structures have been brought to bare-wood, cleaned and checked in every single detail, including the moisture level. To strengthening the hull structure, epoxy resins were used; the interiors were treated and painted with acrylic-based paints to ensure proper insulation. New equipment were installed on board, in addition to new engines, a new Fisher Panda 5000i generator, a new boiler, a new concealed windlass on the bow to operate a fully automated anchor system. The whole electrical system was updated to make the 220V always available when the generator was in use or through battery inverter.

The new layout: The Opening doors were made in carbon fiber and feature the original portholes designed to provide light to the interior. The aft part of the deck layout was completely re-designed. In addition to the existing center cockpit, a second aft cockpit with a new console was added. The entire dashboard was moved and housed in the new aft cockpit, while the center cockpit was made fully available to guests. An aft electric platform was installed to handle the dinghy.
