Kidogo

About

Designed for long periods of solitary sailing, “Kidogo” is the first minitransat built not only with the aim of winning the prestigious ocean race, but also to take part in open regattas in the mediterranean.
This is why it has more sails and is narrower in the beam and above all, offers a better performance close hauled than others of her class.

The Project

“Kidogo” features a highly sophisticated construction, all in Kevlar and carbon, and a deck layout that does not include the “Round beam”, which means that its weight has been reduced further and no mould was needed. This saving in weight is also helped by the use of minimalist interiors and basic installations.

Characteristics

Experience with “Moro di Venezia” in the structural field led to the creation of a blade keel in carbon which, together with a ballast ratio and the innovative sail plan, makes “Kidogo” highly competitive in a fresh breeze. In fact, the sail plan includes a large main sail roach, jib without overlap and large gennaker. The mast has a variable section with spreaders angled at 25°. “Kidogo” also has a 300 kg ballast system on each side, enabled with a pressure pipe and manual pump and it is fitted with solar-powered generators, as well as other innovative features such as automatic pilot control. “Kidogo” was the best Italian boat at the Minitransat in 1995, with Simone Bianchetti.
