Sail

Whisper

Concept

The fourth Baltic 56 Semi Custom example was created for an italian owner. It is a cutting-edge craft because it is designed to sail in solitary, where everything not in use needs to retract and within the limits of possibility, controlled electrically or by hydraulic pumps, but at the same time, this must not affect displacement.

Characteristics

The hull, deck and bulwarks have been made in carbon fibre and
epoxy resin, vacuum laminated and post-cured for 12 hours at
60° with interior fittings made with sandwich structures to limit
displacement to within the 14,000 kg envisaged. To make solitary
sailing easier with a boat of this size, an automated system has been devised with hydraulic furling mainsail, automatic main halyard on captive winch, furling jib, fore sail and code zero. The jib and main sheets are adjusted by magic trim, while the stern door and anchor arm are hydraulically controlled. The bimini top, powered by gas pistons, retracts into the back of the cockpit, while the electrical, remote-controlled gangway and splash hood are also retractable.

Design

The interiors are laid out as follows: from stern to bow, with 2
double symmetrical cabins, each with bath, a roomy dinette and
course plotting area amidships, while the galley is in a dedicated
area; continuing fore, there is a large master cabin, like a suite, with bathroom. At the end of the bow is the crew cabin with bathroom
and at the far end of the stern is a garage with electrically propelled tender. The tender is stored via electric winch with remote control.
The keel, differently from the previous Baltic 56, retracts with a
minimum displacement of 2.4 m and a maximum of 3.60 m. The mast and boom are in carbon, while the two wheels are titanium.
An integrated module serves for the air conditioning, water maker
and 24 Volt generator. The navigation and domotic control system is
controlled by a computer station in the course plotting area and from two external screens in the columns through which it is possible to control all of the machinery on board without leaving the helm.
The engine is a Yanmar 130 Hp diesel with 3-blade prop;
thrusters have been fitted bow and stern to guarantee maximum
manoeuvrability in port.
