The Yacht

It was designed to be in line with IMS regulations but also keeping in mind the spaces needed for comfortable living space and it was built using technology normally dedicated to the one-off hull. The size was chosen in consideration of the fact that the largest number of racers is to be found in the 40’ class of the IMS; this is also a length that leaves room for 6 comfortable berths. The distribution of space does follow the general trend for the modern IMS, which has a reduced maximum beam, meaning very sharp half angles of entry, which are accentuated by the turn of the wheel at the waterline level, between the bow and the sheer (bottom).

Characteristics

“Querida” has been optimised for light winds; it has a high transom and the appendages have been carefully designed, in compliance with IMS regulations. The keel stands out for its large surface area and its volume has also been “inflated”. For the rudder, not wishing to use the penalised carbon, the choice has fallen on a shaft in bonded aluminium foils. This weld-free technology can use aluminium with high magnesium content and therefore, more rigid and competitive than “traditional” exotic fibres. The deck features a lack of stern peaks, which improves the longitudinal strength of the overall construction as well as offering more room below. The compartment needed to store gear has been fitted in the centre of the cockpit bottom.

Interiors

The structural interiors are in composite materials, made with a glass structure that is not sandwich but a monolithic thin sheet of varying thickness, made with the traditional planking system. The fittings are symmetrically divided, which contributes to increasing overall rigidity and reducing chains and improving performance downwind. The sail plan includes a generously sized mainsail with a genoa and spinnaker of modest size to simplify sailing upwind.
